Tim’s absence. He opened the meeting at 12:10 p.m. and welcomed
the members, and guests. Each of us introduced ourselves, and told
who we represent.
Minutes:
July 1, 2008 – Approved
Treasurer's
Report: Treasurer Nancy Hance reported that the current
balance in the treasury is $3,073.72.
Old
Business: Ray asked Sandy Stokes if any action had been
taken on a Foristell Ad Campaign. She and Wanda Donnelly have been
busy with the Fall Festival planning, and the work load at City
Hall has been very demanding which has not allowed time to work
on the Ad Campaign
City Update: Sandy Stokes and Wanda Donnelly passed
out an updated Fall Festival Flyer. They have the project very well
organized with a variety of Crafters, Entertainment, Refreshments
including the Chamber’s Food Booth, Health Care Booths, Give
Away Items and Drawings. Help will be needed on Friday September
12th to set up tents.
The City’s new Web Site is up and running. They will be advertising
the Fall Festival. City Ordinances will be posted.
New
Business: Ray asked the members if they would be interested
in an after hours pool party at Best Western 70 Inn. The Board of
Directors had discussed it last month. Lynda Wood the Manager said
that they are going to keep the pool open beyond Labor Day if the
good weather holds out. They have opened the pool to the general
public for $3.00 per person. The members agreed that the party would
be a good idea. The Board will discuss it and pick a date and let
the members know.
Shelley Rowe from the University of Missouri Extension Service gave
us information on the Warren County Quest Program. It is a Leadership
Development Program designed to promote community leadership by
supporting the growth of knowledgeable, skilled leaders committed
to supporting exceptional quality of life and positive growth in
Warren County. It will develop skills in personal growth, community
commitment, shared vision, community knowledge and civic engagement.
Tuition is $250.00 and covers all costs. Participants are required
to attend all sessions. A limited number of scholarships are available.
Applications should be submitted by August 20, 2008.
Program: Larry Shroth from Ameren UE gave a very
interesting and informative presentation on Balancing the Needs
of the Environment, Customers and the Economy. He talked about Ameren’s
Power On Project. It is a $1 billion three year initiative to improve
the reliability of their electric delivery system and enhance the
environmental performance of their generating plants. UE serves
62 counties in Missouri. They will be spending a half billion dollars
on air scrubbers to reduce sulfur dioxide and mercury emissions
from their coal burning plants. They will be spending $300 million
on underground installation of electric service and $135 million
on tree trimming to insure better protection of their equipment
to eliminate loss of service. They also have initiated a foot patrol
inspection program to identify, repair, and/or replace poles and
other equipment prior to their causing unnecessary outages.
Ameren is planning a Callaway #2 Nuclear Plant which will last 60
years. Formerly, nuclear plants had to be renewed every 20 years.
Uranium can not be reprocessed. The new #2 Plant will produce 1600
mega watts. The old #1 Plant produces 1100 mega watts. The #1 Plant
cost $1 billion to construct. The new #2 Plant will cost $6 billion.
Ameren is trying to figure out how to finance the new plant. They
are trying to avoid paying $3 billion in interest. The power cost
of nuclear production is 1.7 cents per mega watt as opposed to 2.4
cents per mega watt for coal power production. Since 1990 UE customers
are using 50 percent more electricity to power computers, plasma
TV sets, second refrigerators and many other gadgets. Larry said
that Ameren will continue to provide some of the nations lowest
cost power.
There was no other business. Meeting adjourned at 1:05 p.m. Respectfully
submitted, Ray Alexander, Secretary
