City
Update:
City Administrator, Sandy Stokes reported that a Retail Antique
Gift Decor Shop is going to open in the old Golden Travel Building.
The West I-70 Inn is going to open a meeting room that will hold
40 people. Those using the room can cater their meals. It may be
open in December. This could afford the Chamber an opportunity to
hold future meetings in Foristell. Warrenton Oil Co. is starting
to move on a Fast Lane Gas Station/Convenience Store and Fast Food
Store. T/A Travel Center’s Food Court will be open soon.
Current
Business:
Sandy Stokes passed out some information on the joint Chamber and
City of Foristell Christmas Party. The Planning Committee has come
up with some excellent ideas. It will be held at City Hall on December
8th from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. Residents will be invited to tour the
City Hall, Police Department, and hopefully the Fire House. They
will be invited to donate can goods and register for a drawing of
prizes donated from businesses. Most residents do not know about
the Chamber and businesses. This is a chance to promote both. Prizes
can be gift certificates, or whatever else you would like to donate.
Food donations can include meat trays, crackers, fruit, vegetables,
cookies, drinks, ice and cups, and paper products. Special Attractions
include Toys for Tots (through local Marine Reserve Unit), Canned
Goods to be donated to local food pantry, Coat Drive-WIL Radio is
conducting a coat drive for children in the St. Louis Area (drop
off at all Shop & Save locations). There is an opportunity for
displays: Volunteer Program (City to promote a sign up sheet listing
opportunities both present and future, showcase future park concept,
Chamber can have a display board with Chamber members/businesses,
Chamber can offer candy/small toy/pencil/pen with business logo.
Volunteers will be needed to help with set up and clean up. It would
be nice to have someone from the Chamber present throughout the
entire event. The Chamber might want to encourage prospective members
to visit us that day.
New
Business:
President Tim had a report from Gary Elmstead of the Transportation
Committee of the League of Chambers. He will copy it for our Chamber
members and bring it to the next meeting.
A Ribbon Cutting Committee was organized for welcoming new businesses
to the Foristell area. It will be a coordinated effort between the
City and the Chamber. The committee will let the membership know
when a Ribbon Cutting will be held so Chamber members will have
an opportunity to participate. The committee members are Patti Bartlett,
Nancy Hance, Tim Nash, Larry Shroth, and Sandy Stokes.
Larry Shroth announced that the League of Chambers Luncheon will
be held on November 14th at Whittmoor Country Club. Julie Nuemann
will be the guest speaker. He will forward information to Secretary
Ray so he can notify the membership.
Program:
Mark Porter, District Superintendent of the Wright School District
brought us up to date on what has been happening in the District
since his last report. There is currently a one to two per cent
increase in growth. They are involved in long range planning. They
have sold the old Middle School building and are planning new facilities.
Tom Johnson Construction has donated twelve acres of ground to the
District. It is located on Cotton Road. There is a tax free bond
issue on next week’s ballot that needs to pass to raise the
funds for expansion. There are potentially 7700 homes coming to
the area in the next few years. The Wright City District crosses
counties. New businesses are needed to help offset the real estate
taxes for residential home owners.
